The history of Schottel propulsion can be traced back to the early 1950s when the company introduced its first azimuth thruster, known as the Schottel Twin Propeller (STP). This system featured two fixed-pitch propellers mounted on a steerable pod, allowing for 360-degree manoeuvrability.
